Maralyn O'Keefe - Stained-Glass Artist and Restorer
Maralyn has been making Stained 'Leaded' Glass and 'Tiffany Glass' for well over 30 years since graduating from Sunderland University in 1987. She opened the Gallery in Consett shortly afterwards as a studio and gallery space however over the years this has grown and expanded and now showcases many other local artists and crafters, offering products from County Durham and the North East.
Maralyn is internationally renowned and in demand as both a Stained-Glass maker and restorer, having designed and created windows for Cathedrals, Churches, Schools and private collections both in this country and abroad, as far afield as Nigeria, Africa. Maralyn is assisted in the studio by Bridget Hughes, who was trained at the gallery over 20 years ago, and has never left.
Maralyn and Bridget create in both Leaded Glass and Tiffany Glass, the latter uses ‘solder’ only to bind the glass rather than Lead and can make smaller more intricate items such as Bridget's ‘Christmas Gonks’ shown here.
Maralyn also hosts regular workshops in the studio above the Gallery where anyone can go along and learn the secrets of Stained Glass making.
