Beaver Scouts section of 1st. Consett Scout Group
In the summer the Beaver Scouts section of 1st. Consett Scout Group had an evening at Pow Hill nature reserve learning about the insects that live there. They were guided by a Durham Countryside Ranger who is also a Scout leader at Consett. After having a walk and introduction to the area and the animals that live there the children went into a wooded area and collected lots of wood, twigs and leaves. These were piled up to make protected homes for the insects and hopefully increase the numbers of these important members of the habitat. An important addition to the ecosystem but also a lot of fun.
Beaver Scouts range in age from 6 - 8 and can then progress into the Cub Scouts. In total, 1st Consett has six sections and around 130 members. The Scouts encourage young people to do more, learn more and be more.. They learn new skills, make friends for life and have lots of fun. They meet at the Scout Hut in Constance St , Consett and for more information they have a website consettscouts.org.uk
